Home from our Holiday

We have had a relaxing 'get away' to Hobart. I always enjoy a trip to Tasmania and have had quite a number over the years. This time we decided to stay in central Hobart and did not hire a car. Everything was within easy walking distance of the hotel, Salamanca, the waterfront, the ferry to Mona, the museum and gallery.

off to Mona - graffiti art on the ferry
MONA - 99 steps to the top!
Great food at every meal - it was just as well that we walked everywhere, although, probably did not burn of the excellent pastries that were consumed.

fish of the day - ling and blue eye with tomato and saffron broth, cockles, calamari and soft herbs
rum baba
brioche with smoked salmon wrapped around scrambled egg for breakfast
raspberry danish
one of the many counters at Daci & Daci - the scene of so much temptation
We also took an eco tour to Bruny Island which was great fun. A full day trip that departed from the waterfront. Fantastic scenery, lots of seals, some albatross and a sampling of the excellent Bruny Island produce.

An unexpected thrill was finding broken and rusted street sweeper bristles - pathetic I know, but so exciting to find. I managed to add thirty nine to the hundreds that I have already collected from the streets wherever I go. I use then in some of my dyeing projects and also have plans to use them in a found object sculpture.

I also found these rusted things on Bruny Island, they will be good to wrap fabric around for the ecodyeing pot.

  1. I'm jealous. Looks like a great break and those pastries!
