The Big Pause

I have been taking a longer than usual break, it is not that I have been doing nothing but more a case of living life in maintenance mode. During Covid this break from all our usual activities was of referred to as the Big Pause, or that time when your life was on hold. I feel as though my life has been on hold, largely due to some  major home renovations which are now mostly completed. It was so much simpler to stick to simple, tried and true recipes or small projects that did not require much space and few materials.

There has been a lot of paper twining. Recycled dress making patterns cut into strips and twined, ready to make into a basket. These collage activities came at just the right time, a fortnightly prompt by email, all that was needed was some paper, magazines, scissors and glue stick or gel medium.

Fortunately once the tradies left I could get into the kitchen. There has been a bit of baking… so many birthdays and even a wedding to bake for.

Cupcake tower and cutting cake for a simple rustic wedding

Apple pies for the freezer.

Preserving to make the most of the seasonal glut

Lots of this chutney, So delicious on fresh bread and butter

Slow roasted quinces for the freezer

Picked cucumbers in the making

Lots of activities with this little champion. Oscar is always happy to help with a culinary project.

Plenty of gardening

And a bit of fun and dining out.
