ATC January 2017 - Insects

The Artist Trading Cards (ATC) Project continues for 2017. As with many groups participation varies, however, It has been a project that I have enjoyed for the past couple of years and something that I look forward to doing. The monthly topic is set and each participant is free to interpret it whatever way they like, the pieces are small and a good place to try out ideas and techniques. As a sub group of the Embroiderer's Guild there is a strong stitch focus. This year I decided to make a series of three cards, two to swap and one for my collection.

The theme for January was Insects.

My Card

White Fly.  3/3

Repurposed old damask napkin, lace fragments, hand stitch.

The inspiration behind the card was the inevitable Summer arrival of white fly in my garden. I like to reuse old fabrics and found objects. The damask napkin came from my old school, the linen was stained and worn and destined for the bin. The lace pieces were cut from remnants of bridal laces that were given to me years ago and stashed away in the cupboard. Very satisfying to use things from the stash!

The Swaps

Whimsical Bug.  2/4

Appliqué, free machining, hand dyed base.

Ladybird in My Garden.  1/3

Canvas work, ladybird charm.
