Copper Plate Etching

The first in a series of lessons using copper plates.  This time, cats are the subject.

Smelling the Flowers

The technique involves coating the prepared plate with hard ground.

The image is transferred onto the surface and an etching tool is used the scratch into the ground. The plate is then placed in ferric chloride solution. Once the solution has etched the image onto the plate the plate is removed and the remaining black ground is removed. The plate is then inked and printed.

The print trimmed and ready for the 15 cm x 15 cm Challenge / Fundraiser at Fibre Arts next week.
