Summer Garden

A little glimpse of the garden. Summer in our garden is a colourful affair, we have lots of flowers and the garden is lush and green. We are fortunate that we live in the city, not near the raging bushfires, have a small and manageable garden and access to water. We have a water tank, collect all shower water for the garden and have selected many plants for their ability to withstand dry conditions.

There are lots of dahlias coming on, this is an early flowering one.

The Calla lilies have been magnificent, the flowers are starting to die down but the leaves will remain green for a long time.

The Yarrow has really taken off

I love this combination of purple Limonium and red Penstemmon

One of the drier areas of the garden but these dwarf statice have done very well with only a bucket of shower water to keep them going. I started with three small plants a few years ago and have divided them each year to get this dainty border.

Port Wine Magnolias, closely planted and heavily pruned to reduce the water requirements

Pots of succulents and herbs to green the patio

The stand of Crepe Myrtles are doing well, planted to replace the plum trees decimated by possums

The nature strip/verge gets a makeover fairly often, this year I planted it with The succulents that I have repeatedly divided until I had hundreds of them. This is a really hot and dry area and it too is lucky to get a bucket of water.
