Kate Thompson Workshop Mixed Media Revisited

This is an edited version of the original post. Unfortunately photographs disappeared and have been replaced where possible. Sections of the post have been rewritten or removed to reflect the replacement photographs.

What a fabulous week away at Fibre Arts Australia Winter School. Kate was a very generous and inspiring tutor,  you can read more about Kate here. I was not familiar with her work or her approach and techniques and very much enjoyed learning some new skills. Kate’s complex and layered work feature portraits, vintages papers, fabrics, stitch and collage.

I came home with lots of samples and works in progress. Learning to create the images with gel medium and photocopies, some applied directly to the fabric and others by making a gel medium skin.

1874, not finished. Another portrait layered  onto an old ledger page, collage mount and lace detail.

Foxy Lady. A combination of female and fox portrait, dyed fabric, reclaimed canvas and miscellaneous treated fabrics.

Imperfect. Learning to paint the portraits. Layers of vintage fabrics and reclaimed canvas.

Lots of sheets of collage like this.

My contribution to the class display, Funny Bunny
