Lest We Forget

With the restrictions imposed by Covid 19 traditional  dawn commemorative services for  ANZAC Day 2020 were not able to be held in the usual manner. Large public gatherings were not permitted and households were urged to have their own services at home. My street, like many other streets participated, one neighbour rigged up his sound system and was able to broadcast the official  dawn service to the street. At 6 am we assembled at our gates and on our verandahs with lights, candles and torches to remember and give thanks to those who served and died for their country.

I made this simple tribute to hang on my gate. A poppy that I made a few years ago and some sprigs of rosemary, an herb traditionally associated with remembrance.

Daylight saw many of the gates adorned often with simple sprigs of of rosemary

Or with homemade garlands

Pavements were decorated

Flags were hanging

Anzac Biscuits were made, shared ( appropriate social distancing deliveries of little packages) and eaten.

Lest We Forget
