Dyeing in the Gardens

It was a glorious Spring day last Saturday, the Geelong Botanic Gardens were looking beautiful and the classroom provided by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens a joy to work in. Ten enthusiastic ladies, wool and silk scarves, pots, assorted plant matter and found metal objects, everything we needed for a fun day of ecodyeing and ecoprinting.

Here are some of the scarves drying outside.

After setting up there was some show and tell

And then the work began

Laying out the scarves and arranging the plant matter

Ripping up some fabric to use in the bundles and me modelling an ecodyed tunic made from an old linen tablecloth

Rolling up and securing the bundles, ready for the pot.

Then the patient wait

Finally, the bundles were done, unrolled and all was revealed. Twenty gorgeous scarves, all different and such a variety of colour.
