Apple Slice

This slice has been around for years. It is sort of like apple pie and custard all in one little bite. I do not know where the original recipe came from, however, this version has some custard powder added to the mixture and uses a full 300 ml container of cream. If I have lots of apples I use the equivalent amount fresh apple that I stew in the microwave.  It makes an excellent dessert when served with cream or icecream.

Apple Slice
Ingredients
1 pkt vanilla cake mix
(no name/homebrand/cheap version)
1 cup dessicated coconut
125g butter (melted)
1 can pie apples (425g)
300 ml carton sour cream
1 tablespoon custard powder
2 eggs

Cinnamon Sugar
¼ cup caster sugar
½ -1 tsp cinnamon

Mix cinnamon and sugar together.

Use more or less cinnamon to suit your taste.

Method
Preheat oven at 170 degrees Celsius.

Grease and line a slice tin.

Combine cake mix, coconut and melted butter. Press into the greased and lined slice tin to form a base.

Spread the apple over the base.

Combine sour cream, custard powder and eggs, mix well. Pour over apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake for approx 20 mins or until topping is just set.

Allow to cool in tin for at least 10 minutes. Cut into portions.

Refrigerate slice, store in the fridge.
